Parade: Glen Campbell's wife opens up about the last years of his life battling Alzheimer's

The iconic guitarist, singer and songwriter, Glen Campbell, passed away last year after losing the battle against Alzheimer's.

Campbell met his fourth wife on a blind date in the early eighties, and he proposed a year later. They had three children and remained married until his death in August 2017.

In an interview with Parade, Kim explained how his family had made his last day as comfortable as possible. Read more on our Twitter, @amomama_usa.

"We opened the doors so the music would flutter into his room. He had his family holding his hand; he had music filling the room. It was beautiful, tranquil and serene."

Campbell rose to fame in the sixties when he started writing his own hits and penned classics like By The Time I Get To Phoenix and Wichita Lineman.

Both songs earned him the Grammy Hall of Fame Award. His largest selling single was Rhinestone Cowboy, which was nominated for the Best Pop Vocal Performance.

The album was nominated for the Album of The Year Award. He also pursued a career in the film industry and starred alongside Hollywood veterans like John Wayne and Kim Darby in Norwood and True Grit.

Campbell arranged his Goodbye Tour in 2011 when he was ready to retire, the same year he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

His last album was titled Adios and featured twelve songs he had written years earlier. the album was released in June 2017, Campbell was already losing his battle with Alzheimer's.

He passed away two months later, having never heard his farewell album.

Earlier this year, Campbell's daughter, Ashley, uploaded a video depicting her rehearsing with her father for his tour. She used the hashtag ' father daughter bonding,' among others.

Ashley wrote in the caption: 'Reminiscing on a Sunday,' and added that she misses her father every day, but listening to his music makes the feeling bearable.
