In an exciting turn of events, a 19-year-old hatched a plan involving a whimsical wig to outsmart her incessantly imitating sibling. Little did she know, this playful charade would trigger a series of unforeseen twists, leaving her younger sister with a surprising and perhaps regrettable transformation.

In July 2020, an anonymous female contributor turned to Reddit's "AITA" forum to pen her story. She had a younger sister who looked exactly like her. At 19, she found herself constantly mistaken for her 16-year-old sibling, the striking resemblance prompting people to assume they were twins. Sharing the same height, skin tone, and even a similar voice, their closeness was undeniable.

The younger sister, however, had a persistent habit of mirroring her older sibling's every move—from clothing choices to hobbies and even piercings. While onlookers might find the matching outfits endearing, the Original Poster found it more than a tad irritating and, at times, downright creepy. Despite their close relationship, the younger sister seemed to adopt OP's every preference effortlessly.

Frustrated, OP had repeatedly asked her sister to cease the mimicry, but the younger sibling insisted it was a matter of personal preference. According to her, she found the choices so appealing that she couldn't resist trying them for herself, leading to a continuous cycle of imitation.

How Did OP Trick Her Sister?

One afternoon, as OP tidied up costumes in her college showroom, she stumbled upon an adorable brown and pink wig with a mushroom-like appearance. Deciding to have a bit of fun, she donned the wig, finding its humorous look amusing enough to capture in a photo that she promptly shared on Instagram.

Alongside endorsing OP's perspective, numerous individuals highlighted the unwarranted nature of her parents' actions, expressing sentiments of disagreement.

Shortly after, a text arrived from her sister, inquiring if the OP had genuinely cut her hair. In a moment of mischief, OP, suspecting her sister's penchant for imitation, chose to fib and falsely affirmed, expressing a desire for a change in style without disclosing the wig's true nature.

The Aftermath

Returning home for the weekend, OP was met with a surprising sight: her sister had adopted the same silly brown and pink bob cut, seemingly making it her permanent hairstyle. OP, still sporting her long hair, unintentionally unveiled the consequences of her mischievous wig ruse.

The younger sister, taken aback by the unexpected revelation, pieced together that OP had deceived her. Filled with fury, she lamented having chopped her hair, convinced that the whimsical hairstyle was a genuine choice made by her older sibling.

Despite OP's clarification that she never intended for her sister to replicate the peculiar look, her parents deemed it a misguided joke and called for a resolution. "Our parents think that it was a really bad joke and wanted me to cut my hair too to make it up to her," OP remarked, expressing bewilderment at their stance on the matter.

While sympathizing with her sister's predicament, OP couldn't help but feel a twinge of satisfaction knowing that her unique hairstyle was now safe from imitation due to her sister's shortened locks. As a result, she resolved to maintain her long hair, unaffected by the unexpected twist of the sisterly saga. But a part of her wondered, "AITA for 'tricking' my copycat sister to cut her hair?"

What Do Redditors Say?

OP's narrative garnered a substantial online response, with a significant majority of commenters unanimously declaring her "NTA." Alongside endorsing OP's perspective, numerous individuals highlighted the unwarranted nature of her parents' actions, expressing sentiments of disagreement. Here are a few comments worth mentioning:

"NTA. Not your fault if she did it, especially if she claims she isn't copying you and it is just "coincidence". Your parents should know better than to say you should cut your hair," one user wrote.

"The parents should have nipped this in the bud a long time ago, and encouraged the younger sister to develop her own identity and sense of self, rather than letting her obsess with becoming 'mini-me' NTA [sic]," said a second user.

"Your parents expected you to cut your hair to be fair? That's weird. Sure, your lie was a bit of an AH move, but at some point, your sister needs to develop her own sense of style. NTA," quipped a third user.

"NTA. You caught her red-handed. She literally became angry because she couldn't have your identity anymore. Might be worth discussing therapy for her with your parents though," opined a fourth netizen.

"NTA After all, she only copies your ideas because she honestly feels they suit her. You gave her an idea, that is all. She claimed to like it. Your parents are encouraging very bad behavior by pressuring you," added a fifth commenter.

"NTA. Your parents: IF YOUR SISTER JUMPED OFF A BRIDGE, WOULD YOU DO IT TOO? Your sister, voice fading as she plummets into the abyss: 'What was that? All I heard was my sister jumped off a bridge,'" chimed another user.
