A young brother and sister interrupt a wedding ceremony, clinging desperately to the bride and calling her "Mom." She appears not to know who they are, but their shocking appearance reveals a hidden family secret that finally comes to light.

The setting sun bathed the serene estate garden in a soft, golden glow, casting a warm ambiance over a gathering of well-dressed wedding guests.

Inside the medieval castle-styled building adjacent to the garden where the ceremony would take place, Rebecca, the bride, was preparing for this momentous occasion.

Her ivory gown flowed gracefully around her, and her bridesmaids buzzed nearby like diligent worker bees, making final adjustments.

"Rebecca, you look absolutely stunning," her best friend and maid of honor, Judy, exclaimed as she helped secure a tiara in Rebecca's hair.

Rebecca offered a nervous smile. "Thank you, Judy. I can't believe this day is finally here," she said.

Rebecca stood before the mirror in her wedding dress, radiant in her beauty. She took a deep breath and smiled, excitement and nervousness coursing through her veins.

"You look like a princess," exclaimed one of the bridesmaids.

"Breathtaking," another chimed in.

Rebecca blushed, her heart overflowing with joy. She had dreamed of this day her entire life, and now it was finally here. She was about to marry the man of her dreams, Mark, in the most beautiful setting imaginable.

The wedding venue was a picturesque outdoor estate nestled in the rolling hills of the countryside. The lush green lawns were dotted with white roses and elegant white chairs. A white canopy stood at the end of the aisle, framing the altar, where Mark eagerly awaited her arrival.

Rebecca turned away from the mirror and took one last look around the room. She was surrounded by her closest friends and family, all of whom were beaming with happiness.

She felt a wave of gratitude wash over her. She was so lucky to have such a loving and supportive group of people in her life. The only concern playing on her mind was why her sister, Emily, had not yet shown up.

"It's time," her mother said softly, squeezing her hands. "I so wish your father could see you now; he would be so proud of you," she added.

Rebecca said nothing. Her father had led an alcohol-damaged life and left his family when Rebecca was a teenager. Sadly, Rebecca had fallen down the same hole to addiction, and now she had very little memory of her earlier life before Mark.

To her, her life began when she met Mark shortly after getting out of rehab. He was a regular customer at the coffee shop where she took a job as a waitress, and their's was a whirlwind romance that had moved quickly towards this day.

"Mom," Rebecca said softly, "have you heard from Emily? Why is she late? She is one of my bridesmaids. This is not like her at all."

"Don't worry, love," Rebecca's mother, Audrey, reassured her. "Maybe something came up with the kids. I'll call her as soon as we go down to the garden. Just don't worry about it, love. This is your big day."

"Thanks, Mom, okay," Rebecca replied, smiling weakly. But she couldn't help feeling something was wrong.

Rebecca took a deep breath and nodded. She turned and faced the door, her heart pounding in her chest. She was ready to walk down the aisle and start her new life with Mark.

The guests were gathered outside, enjoying the warm sunshine and the stunning view of the countryside. They chatted and laughed, eager for the ceremony to begin.

As the music swelled, the guests turned to see Rebecca walking down the aisle, her mother by her side. She looked like a vision in her white wedding dress, her long hair cascading down her back. The guests gasped in awe at her beauty.

Mark's eyes widened as he saw Rebecca approaching. His heart lit up at her radiant smile. He knew he was the luckiest man in the world to marry her.

Rebecca's mother placed her daughter's hands in Mark's, and then she stepped back. Rebecca and Mark gazed into each other's eyes, their love for each other shining through.

The officiant began the ceremony, and Rebecca and Mark exchanged their vows. They promised to love and cherish each other for the rest of their lives.

Just as they were about to exchange their rings, a loud commotion erupted from the crowd. Two dirty children burst down the altar, shouting, "Mom, come back!" When they reached her, they clung desperately to Rebecca's feet, their faces tear-stained.

Shock and confusion rippled through the guests. What were these children doing here? And why were they calling Rebecca "Mom"?

Rebecca's eyes widened in disbelief. She knelt down and gently removed the children's arms from her legs.

"Timmy, Lily? Is that you? What are you doing here?" she asked, her voice trembling with shock.

"We don't want you to marry him," Timmy said, his voice choked with sobs.

"He's not our real dad," Lily added, her tears flowing freely.

The guests gasped. What was the meaning of this?

Rebecca looked up at Mark, her eyes filled with tears. "What is this all about?" she asked.

Mark shook his head, his face pale. "I don't know," he said. "But we need to figure it out."

The officiant stepped forward, clearing his throat. "I think we should postpone the ceremony until we can get to the bottom of this," he said.

Rebecca and Mark nodded in agreement. Rebecca took Timmy and Lily's hands and led them away from the altar. They walked through the stunned guests and moved indoors, leaving behind a trail of confusion and unanswered questions.

Rebecca, Mark, Timmy, and Lily entered a small room close to the castle building entrance. Rebecca was still trying to process what had just happened. She couldn't believe that her wedding day had been turned upside down by the appearance of these two children.

Emily, who had arrived just in time at the start of the ceremony, followed them into the room.

***

Timmy and Lily were inseparable from the moment Lily was born. Though they had different fathers, Timmy had become his sister's protector and constant companion.

Their early childhood—what they could remember of it—was not happy. Things had been okay for them as a family for a while, with Lily's father, Derrick, moving in after she was born.

But it soon became apparent that Derrick was not much of a better man than Timmy's father, Beau, who was long gone.

Both men were irredeemable drunkards and addicts, as was Timmy and Lily's poor mom. She had desperately hoped that another baby would put her on the straight and narrow to recovery, and she had stayed sober for most of her pregnancy with Lily.

Yet, as soon as the baby was born, especially when Derrick moved in, she fell back into her old habits.

Tempted and encouraged by Derrick, she soon used drugs again, often leaving the children unattended for days. In her sober moments, she did just enough to keep her children alive but not much more.

It was left to the children's aunt to step in and see to their needs. She would check in daily at the house, bring the children food, try to get their mother out of bed, and scold Derrick for his lazy and incompetent ways.

"Derrick, you need to take care of your family!" she would admonish as the man settled on the couch for another day of smoking dope and watching TV.

"Yeah," Derrick would say, "What am I supposed to do? I don't know how to look after myself, let alone a baby."

One day, their aunt, Emily, arrived at the house to find the children alone and hungry. Their mother was passed out on the couch, and Derrick was nowhere to be seen.

Emily sighed in exasperation. She had been hoping that things would improve, but it was clear that they were only getting worse.

She went to the kitchen to get the children something to eat. Then she sat down with them at the kitchen table and started to talk.

"Timmy, Lily," she said, "I know that your mother is not being a good mother right now. She's sick, and she needs help. But I want you to know that I'm here for you. I'm going to take care of you."

Timmy looked up at Emily with big, sad eyes. "Are you going to be our new mom?" he asked.

Emily smiled. "I don't know, Timmy," she said. "But I promise that I'll always be there for you."

Lily hugged Emily tightly. "Thank you, Aunty Emily," she said.

Emily hugged Lily back. "I love you both very much," she said.

Emily continued to visit Timmy and Lily every day. She brought them food and clothes and helped them with their schoolwork. She also tried to talk to their mother about getting help, but she always refused.

One day, Emily arrived at the house to find that the door was unlocked. She went inside and found Timmy and Lily sitting on the couch, looking scared and alone again.

"Where's your mom?" Emily asked.

Timmy shrugged. "We don't know," he said. "She's been gone for days."

Emily's heart sank. She knew that their mother was probably out getting high. She could only guess as to when, or if, she would be back.

Emily sat down on the couch next to Timmy and Lily and put her arms around them. "Don't worry," she said. "I'm here now. I'm going to take you home with me."

Timmy and Lily hugged Emily tightly. They were so relieved to be safe.

Emily took Timmy and Lily home with her and raised them as her own. She gave them the love and support that they had never received from their biological parents.

Emily would try to explain that their mother was sick and that she needed to get better. But Timmy didn't understand. He just wanted his mother back.

Lily was too young to understand what was happening, but she could sense her brother's sadness and fear. She would hug him tightly and whisper, "Mom will come back. I promise."

Timmy and Lily grew up happily enough in Emily's care but never forgot their mother. They talked about her all the time, and they dreamed of the day when she would return.

When Timmy was seven years old, he started having nightmares about his mother. He would wake up screaming and tell Lily that he had seen her in his dream.

"She was sad," he would say. "And she was crying."

Lily would try to comfort her brother, but she was scared, too. She knew that something was wrong.

In time, with Emily's tireless support, Rebecca accepted the help she needed and went into a lengthy rehabilitation program.

Emily legally adopted Timmy and Lily, doing her best to substitute for their mother, but it was clear to all who knew them that there was a hole in the shape of their mother in both of their hearts.

Timmy often asked where his mother was and why she had left them. And he had told Lily so much about their mom and painted her in such loving colors in his sister's mind that it was as if Lily knew her, even though she had been just a baby when they had parted.

The children grew strong, assured, and intelligent for their ages. They were loners, genuinely comfortable only in each other's company but wise to the ways and wiles of grown-ups.

They listened carefully. They understood far more than they let on to the adults in their lives. They stayed out of trouble, and they did what they were told.

***

One day, Timmy came home from school and told Lily that he had seen a picture of their mother in the local newspaper the school supplied in the library for the children and teachers to read.

"I saw a picture of Mom in the newspaper!" Timmy told his little sister. He was excited but also sad and confused. "There was a man with her in the picture, and it said in the writing under it that Mom and this man are getting married."

Lily's heart sank. She thought that this meant that their mother was never coming back.

"Did the newspaper say why she left us? Who is the man? Did he take her away from us?" Lily asked tearfully.

Timmy couldn't answer these questions. He just shook his head and hugged his sister.

Timmy and Lily were left knowing their mother was out there somewhere, but they couldn't understand why she had left them or whether they would ever see her again. And this was a wound that felt like it would never fully heal.

They were happy enough with Emily. She was a good mother to them. She gave them everything they needed and was kind and gentle with them. But she was on her own and had to work hard to make enough money to take care of them.

They were often left with Granny Audrey, who was also very good to them, but the yearning for their birth mother grew all the more when they spent time with their grandmother. She reminded the children so much of their mother.

And so came the momentous day of Rebecca and Mark's wedding. Since Timmy had seen the picture in the paper announcing the nuptials, he had been keeping his eyes and ears open for clues.

He and Lily quietly eavesdropped behind closed doors as Emily spoke about the wedding plans on the phone.

Clearly, the children were being excluded from all proceedings, and while they didn't understand why, they thought rather to keep quiet and not let on that they were privy to proceedings.

Timmy asked some strategic questions, and once he had the information he needed, he began to plot how he and his sister might possibly be reunited with their beloved mom.

It was a Saturday, and Emily had arranged for the kids to spend the day and night with their friendly neighbors, Patrick and Susan, a kindly retired couple who happily took Timmy and Lily in whenever Emily asked them.

Having never had children, they were very fond of Timmy and Lily. They were the perfect babysitters: loving, generous, indulging the children's every wish and need—which were always reasonable and modest, being the good kids they were.

It was obvious to Patrick and Susan from the moment the children arrived for the afternoon and night with them that something was amiss.

Although they kept to themselves, often playing together in the large backyard, Timmy and Lily were always friendly, warm, and engaging with the grown-ups. That Saturday, however, they were sullen and withdrawn. Clearly, something was bothering them.

"Timmy, Lily, is something wrong?" Susan asked with concern as she gave them a snack and orange juice in the kitchen.

"Our mom is—" Lily began, but Timmy cut her off quickly.

"No, nothing is wrong, Aunty Susan," Timmy said quickly, "we just miss our mom, is all."

"You poor dears," Susan said sadly. "I know you do. Your mom was very sick and needed to go away and get help. But now you have your Aunty Emily to look after you, and she loves you very much."

Timmy nodded. "We love Aunty Em, too. We just wish our mom hadn't left, and we want to get her back."

"I know, dear," Susan reassured Timmy. "But she can't come back to you right now. One day, when you are older, you will understand."

"It's not fair!" Lily yelled. "We don't want to be older! We want our mom back now!"

Susan was startled by little Lily's response, and her yell brought Patrick into the kitchen to investigate, his weekend newspaper in hand.

"What's this now?" he asked. "What's wrong, kids?"

"Aunty Susan says we have to wait until we're old for our mom to come back. We won't!" Lily reiterated, stamping a foot on the ground.

Patrick and Susan looked at each other with concern, unsure how to deal with this outburst.

"Kids," Susan said after a moment, "how about you go and play in the backyard? And when your Aunty Emily comes to collect you tomorrow, we'll all talk about it then."

"No fair," Lily said, folding her arms in a sulk.

Timmy, however, knew this was all part of his plan, and he went along carefully. "Okay, Aunty Susan," he said sweetly, "we'll go and play. Come, Lil, let's go, it's okay.

Lily followed her big brother out into the yard, and they made their way over to the far side, where they knew the wooden fence separating Patrick and Susan's yard from theirs was closest to their Aunty Emily's bedroom.

They lingered against the fence, watching the kitchen door from which they could see Susan and Patrick were watching them.

They pretended to play in the dirt patch below their feet, digging up dirt and filling a plastic bucket—the type intended for the beach. They made sure to get their hands, faces, and clothes as dirty as possible in the process.

The children sprang into action once Patrick and Susan drifted away deeper indoors. Timmy made a platform with his cupped hands for Lily to stand on so she could reach up and peep over the garden fence.

"Do you see her?" Timmy asked quietly.

"Yeah, I see her!" Lily replied in a loud whisper. "She's brushing her hair and looking in the mirror."

"Is she in that fancy dress we saw in her closet?"

"Yep!"

"Okay, it's time. She'll be going soon." Timmy let Lily down to the ground. "You remember what I told you to do?" he asked.

"I remember," Lily said. "Yell like somebody's trying to kill me!"

"Yeah," Timmy said, "that's it."

Timmy had coached his sister well; she screamed like a banshee while Timmy shouted as loudly as he could: "Aunty Emily! Aunty Emily! Help! Help".

They kept it up, and it took only a few seconds for Patrick to come blundering out the back door, his face red and his eyes wide in shock.

"What? What? What's going on?" he stuttered. Susan quickly followed her husband out into the yard.

"Oh my God!" she exclaimed, "What happened to you? Why are you screaming like that?"

Timmy and Lily ran down the side of the house, through the front yard, and into the street, but they didn't need to go much further, for Emily came running from their house—looking radiant in a flowing peach bridesmaid dress.

"What happened?" Emily asked, looking at the children in horror. "What have you done to yourselves?"

"It was Patrick and Susan!" Timmy lied. Right on cue, Lily began to cry.

"They shouted at us and said our mom doesn't love us and will never come back. Then they told us to go outside into the garden and stay there all night!" Timmy went on with a perfectly straight face.

Dear Patrick and Susan had followed right behind the children and heard what Timmy said. Patrick was speechless with shock. "Ah, ah, ah…" was all he could say.

Susan burst into tears, and all she could say was, "Oh my God! That's not true. Oh my God! Why is he saying that? We would never do such a thing."

Emily looked at Patrick and Susan, then turned to the children and yelled: "Get in the car now! Get in the car! We will get to the bottom of this one way or another, but I'm already late for the wedding!"

Turning to the stunned couple, Emily wrung her hands with embarrassment. "I am so, so sorry," she said. "I don't know what's got into them. I promise we'll come over later, and they will apologize, and we'll straighten this out. I am so sorry!"

"Ah, ah, er…" was all Patrick could say while his wife nodded and took out a tissue to wipe her eyes.

"We were talking in the kitchen," Susan tried to explain. "They said they missed their mother, but I never said anything about their mother not loving them. Oh my God, why are they behaving like this? I'm so sorry, Emily!"

"It's not your fault, Susan! I'm sure of it. They must have found out about the wedding, so they are playing up like this. I think I will have to take them with me now and try talking to them. I can't leave them with you in this state."

Timmy and Lily bundled themselves into the car without a word.

It was a half-hour drive out to the estate, and Emily tried to engage with the children. "What was that all about?" she asked nervously. Her initial anger had given way to deep concern for her wards' mental well-being.

"It was them, I told you," Timmy said sulkily. "Susan said we would never see our mother again. That's a lie, and then they sent us outside and told us we had to sleep out there until we learned our lesson."

"I don't believe that, Timmy!" Emily exclaimed. "There is no way they would do that to you. Tell me what really happened."

Timmy didn't respond; he simply folded his arms and looked down at his lap. Lily copied her brother exactly, and they lapsed into silence. Emily stepped on the gas as far as it felt safe, aware that the ceremony was just about to begin.

Arriving at the estate, Emily turned around in her seat and instructed with all the authority she could summon: "Stay in the car! Don't move a muscle until I come back, do you understand?" Timmy and Lily nodded timidly.

But their aunt's demand was soon to be disobeyed. Timmy and Lily waited about ten minutes and then followed their aunt's footsteps towards the garden wedding setting.

They hid behind a copse of trees and waited for exactly the right moment to stage their "insurrection."

Tensions were high inside the estate antechamber where the broken family had assembled after the children's outburst, and no one knew where to begin.

Rebecca was in tears, and Emily stepped over and embraced her. Their mother, Audrey, entered the room and joined the embrace.

Meanwhile, Mark, struggling to make any sense of all this commotion and control his emotions, approached Timmy and Lily, crouching down to their level.

"Hey, kids," he began gently, "I'm Mark. Is this true? Is that lady over there, Rebecca, who I am about to marry, really your mom?"

Timmy nodded sadly. "She's our mom," he said. "She left us behind, and Aunty Emily looked after us. We love Aunty Em, but we want our mom back."

"Okay," Mark said, shocked at encountering this evidence of his fiancée's previous life but taking it calmly. "Come, let's go outside, and you can tell me more. Your mom and aunty have a lot to talk about."

The trio huddled outside, their breath forming clouds in the crisp twilight air. Timmy, his eyes glistening with unshed tears, turned to Mark.

"I remember when I was little," he said, his voice trembling slightly. "I used to wake up in the middle of the night and cry. I missed Mom so much. I would go to her room, but she wouldn't be there. I would search the whole house, but she was always gone."

Mark reached out and placed a comforting arm around Timmy's shoulders. "I'm so sorry, Timmy," he said softly. "I can't imagine what it must have been like for you and Lily."

"It was hard," Timmy admitted. "But we had each other. We got through it together."

Mark nodded in understanding. He knew what it was like to lose a parent. His mother had died of cancer when he was just a child. He also knew that the pain of loss never truly goes away. It simply becomes a part of who you are.

"Can Mom come back to us now, please?" Timmy begged, his voice filled with hope.

Mark shook his head gently. "I'm not sure, Timmy. But I want you to know that she'll always be here for you, no matter what. And so will your Aunty Emily."

Timmy smiled. "Thanks, Mark. That means a lot."

They stood in silence for a moment, listening to the sound of the wind rustling through the trees.

Rebecca's tears gave way to angry sobs and questions about why Emily and her mother had hidden the children's adoption from her.

"How could you do this to us?" she remonstrated, wiping away her tears. "They are my children! They will always be. I can barely remember those early years, but I know I loved them with all my heart. All I ever wanted to be was a good mother. You told me Child Protection Services had placed them in foster care."

"I'm so sorry, Rebecca," Emily said. "I know this is difficult for you."

Rebecca sniffed and wiped away her tears. "I just can't believe this is happening," she said. "My children...my own flesh and blood...and I've been kept away from them for all these years."

"I know," Emily said. "It's not fair. But you have to understand why we did what we did."

Rebecca shook her head. "I don't understand," she said. "I was young and scared, but I loved my children. I would have done anything for them."

"I know you would have," Emily said. "But we thought we were doing what was best for you and the children."

Rebecca sighed. "I suppose so," she said. "But it still hurts."

"I know it does," Emily said. "But you have to be strong. For Timmy and Lily."

Rebecca nodded. "I will," she said. "I promise."

Emily walked over to a window. She looked out at Timmy and Lily with Mark, still standing outside, talking.

"I hope that we can all be a family one day," she said. "A real family."

Rebecca smiled. "Me too, Emily. Me too."

The two women stood in silence for a moment, watching Timmy, Lily, and Mark through the window.

"Do you think they're talking about me?" Rebecca asked.

Emily smiled. "I'm sure they are," she said.

Rebecca sighed. "I missed them so much," she said.

Emily nodded in understanding. "I know," she said. "But we'll get through this together."

Rebecca reached out and took Emily's hand. "Thank you, Emily," she said. "I don't know what I'd do without you."

Emily smiled. "You're my sister," she said. "That's what sisters are for."

The two women stood there for a moment longer, holding hands. Emily acknowledged Rebecca's efforts to change but was still intent on protecting Timmy and Lily's interests.

She explained that the children had been through such an ordeal and that they needed time to process everything that had happened.

"I'm so, so sorry, Rebecca," Emily said. "If we could do it all over again, we wouldn't have done what we did. We didn't know that you would recover so well after rehab and stay off drugs."

Audrey backed her daughter up, saying: "We made a decision as a family for Emily to raise the kids. When those years passed while you recovered, we thought it best that they stay with her rather than face another upheaval. But we underestimated how much they love you and want to be back with you."

Rebecca nodded. "I understand," she said. "We'll have to talk this all out. It's going to take time, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to earn their trust back."

"I know you want to be a mother to them again, Rebecca," Emily said. "But it's important to remember that they've been through a lot. They still need time to heal, and they need to make sure that you're really back for good."

"I know," Rebecca acknowledged. "But I'm ready to face this. I can't bear the thought of losing them again now that they've found me. Mark, too; he is going to have to be in on it. I can't face losing him, either. I don't know how he's going to take this. I never told him about my sordid past."

"I'm sure he'll understand, love," Audrey said. "He's a good man. He'll do the right thing."

Mark, who had slipped back in with the children and been standing quietly by the side, spoke up. "I'm willing to support Rebecca in any way that I can," he said. "I believe in her and know she can be a great mother to Timmy and Lily."

Emily looked at Mark, then at Timmy and Lily. She could see the hope and longing in their eyes. She knew that they wanted their mother back.

"Okay," Emily said finally. "I'm willing to give Rebecca a chance. But I need you all to understand that this is a slow process. It's going to take time for Timmy and Lily to trust Rebecca again. And it's going to take time for Rebecca to learn how to be a mother to them again."

Rebecca, Mark, Timmy, and Lily all nodded in agreement.

"So, here's what we're going to do," Emily continued. "Rebecca and Mark, you can move into a house near us. That way, Timmy and Lily can visit you as much as they want. And you can start to get to know each other again."

"Thank you, Emily," Rebecca said. "I promise that I won't let you down."

"I know you won't," Emily said.

Emily agreed to support them in this process but made it clear that she would be keeping a close eye on the situation.

"Now, we'll have two moms!" Lily chirped, raising a smile around the room.

The master of ceremonies made an announcement explaining the situation to the guests: Rebecca and Mark had agreed to delay the wedding and, with Emily's support, spend time with Timmy and Lily to rebuild their relationship.

Rebecca, Mark, Timmy, and Lily began spending time together on a regular basis. They would go on outings around town, play games, and just talk.

Rebecca was patient and understanding, and she gave the children the space they needed to adjust to her presence in their lives.

At first, Timmy and Lily were hesitant to open up to Rebecca. She had hurt them in the past, and they were afraid that she would leave them again. But Rebecca was consistent with her attention and affection, and she slowly began to gain their trust.

As promised, Rebecca and Mark moved into a house down the street from Emily and the children. Timmy and Lily were excited and nervous to have their mother back in their lives. But over time, they started to trust her again.

They told her about their days at school, friends, fears, and hopes. And Rebecca listened patiently and offered them guidance and support.

One day, Timmy and Lily were playing in the backyard when Rebecca came out to join them. She sat down on the grass next to them and asked, "Can I tell you a story?"

Timmy and Lily nodded eagerly.

Rebecca smiled and began to tell them a story about a girl who had gotten lost in the woods. She was scared and alone but determined to find her way home. She walked for days and faced many challenges along the way. But she never gave up.

Finally, the girl found her way home. She was so happy to be back with her family. She had learned a lot during her journey and was stronger and wiser because of it.

When Rebecca finished her story, Timmy and Lily were silent for a moment. Then Timmy looked at her and asked, "Mom, are you like the girl in the story?"

Rebecca smiled. "Yes," she said. "I am."

"And are you going to find your way home?" Lily asked.

"I have already," Rebecca said. "You two are my home."

Timmy and Lily hugged their mother tightly. They knew that she would always be there for them now.

On another occasion, Rebecca came to pick the children up for some time together. "So," Rebecca said, bundling them into her car, "what do you guys want to do today?"

Timmy and Lily looked at each other. "We want to go to the zoo," Lily said.

Rebecca smiled. "Okay," she said. "Let's go to the zoo."

They spent the rest of the day at the zoo, having fun and laughing together. By the end of the day, Timmy and Lily were relaxed and happy. They were starting to feel comfortable around Rebecca again.

One evening, Rebecca, Mark, Timmy, and Lily were eating dinner together. "So," Rebecca said. "How are you guys doing?"

Timmy and Lily looked at each other.

"We're okay," Timmy said.

"We're getting used to having you around again," Lily said.

Rebecca smiled. "That's good to hear," she said.

"I want you to know that I'm here to stay," Rebecca said. "I'm never going to leave you again."

Timmy and Lily looked at each other again. "We believe you," Timmy said.

Rebecca's heart melted. She knew it would take time to fully rebuild her relationship with her children, but she was confident they would get there. She had their love and was determined to be the mother they deserved.

After putting the children to bed that night—they were staying over—Rebecca and Mark sat up talking. "I'm so happy to see how well you're doing with Timmy and Lily," Mark said. "You're a wonderful mom."

Rebecca smiled. "Thank you," she said. "It means so much to me that you're doing this with me. Thank you for that."

"I'm so glad that we decided to delay the wedding," Mark said. "It's given us the time we need to rebuild the family."

Rebecca nodded in agreement. "I am, too," she said. "I can't wait to marry you and start our new life together. I love you."

Mark took Rebecca's hand and smiled. "I love you, too," he said.

And so it came to pass that Rebecca and Mark stood side by side at the altar once again, exchanging vows. But this time, Timmy and Lily were standing right alongside them as their best man and maid of honor. Emily looked on happily from the front row.

Rebecca looked into Mark's eyes and said, "I promise to love you and cherish you for the rest of my life. I promise to be a good wife to you and a good mother to our children."

Mark smiled and echoed his bride's vow: "I promise to love you and cherish you for the rest of my life. I promise to be a good husband to you and a good father to our children."

Rebecca and Mark kissed, and the crowd cheered.

Timmy and Lily watched their mother and Mark with happy hearts. They knew that they had finally found their forever home.
